Ramzan Kadyrov: Aslan Maskhadov's widow returns to Chechnya
Kusama Maskhadova, a widow of Aslan Maskhadov, a Chechen militant leader, has got a Russian passport and returned home. This was reported by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. A source from the Chechen law enforcement bodies has noted that Kusama Maskhadova may stay in the Nadterechny District, where her relatives live.
On March 8, 2005, Aslan Maskhadov, President of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, was killed in the Chechen village of Tolstoy-Yurt, during a unilateral ceasefire declared by him.
"When I was told that she was ill and that she wanted to return home, I issued an order to prepare a passport for her. And I returned home the Maskhadov's wife, although Aslan Maskhadov once issued an order to kill me.... What is her fault? She is a woman," Ramzan Kadyrov has said at the meeting of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic.
It should be noted that during the first military campaign in Chechnya, the Maskhadov family lived in the village of Pervomaiskoe of the Grozny District of Chechnya. After Aslan Maskhadov has been elected the President of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, his family moved to a house in the village of Nizhnyaya Katayama of the Staropromyslovsky District. The house was burnt down after the federal forces had assaulted the city of Grozny.
Kusama Maskhadova left Russia in 2000. During some time, she lived in Azerbaijan, and in 2008, according to members of the Chechen Diaspora, she left the country.
In 2009, Anzor, a son of Aslan Maskhadov, who was in Norway, claimed that his family members received threats demanding to return to Chechnya.
