IS claims shelling in Derbent to be second attack in Russia during three months
The "Islamic State" (IS) claimed having attacked the area of the Derbent fortress. For the second time in the past three months, the IS claims responsibility for the successful operations in Russia. The first attack, according to the IS, had taken place in the Magaramkent District of Dagestan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 30, the "Islamic State" claimed responsibility for the shelling in Derbent. According to the IS, Russian soldiers were a target of the shelling.
12 people with gunshot wounds addressed the Derbent hospital for medical help. One of the wounded persons died.
In September 2015, the "Islamic State" announced the successful attack in the Magaramkent District adjacent to Derbent. In particular, on September 2, it was reported on the attack on Russian military barracks near the village of Magaramkent.
Meanwhile, sources from the law enforcement bodies and local residents did not confirm the information about the attack near Magaramkent. The information about the attack was published on the SITE Intelligence Group website.
In late September, the US authorities imposed sanctions against the IS unit in Northern Caucasus. The US State Department has noted that the IS unit in Northern Caucasus claimed responsibility for the attack on a Russian military base in Magaramkent.
