Refusal to reclassify Nemtsov's murder case upheld

The murder of Boris Nemtsov had nothing to do with his political activities, the investigator said at the consideration of the complaint on the refusal to reclassify the case into the article dealing with an attempt on the life of a statesman or public figure. The injured party insists that political motives of the murder are unreasonably denied, but the court upheld the investigation's position.

Boris Nemtsov was shot dead on February 27 in Moscow. In connection with the crime, five natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia were detained, namely: Zaur Dadaev, Anzor Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhaev, Tamerlan Eskerkhanov and Shagid Gubashev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the motion to re-qualify the murder case of Boris Nemtsov was rejected in October. The Nemtsov's family insists on re-qualifying the case from Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder) into a more serious Article 277 (attempt on the life of a statesman or public figure).

The consideration of the complaint was held today at the Basmanny Court of Moscow. The investigator has stated that there was no confirmation that the murder of Boris Nemtsov was associated with his political activities.

"It has been well established that the murder of Nemtsov had nothing to do with his political and public activities," the RAPSI quotes the investigator as stating.

In his turn, Vadim Prokhorov, the advocate for the family, said that investigators had confidently denied any association of the murder with Boris Nemtsov's political activities; however, they failed to present any alternatives to this version.
