Activist in Yerevan de-stitches his mouth

Ovannes Karapetyan, a supporter of "New Armenia", who had stitched up his mouth and gone on a hunger strike in protest against human rights violations, has agreed to remove the stitches, but continues his protest in Freedom Square.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 21 the Yerevan activist Ovannes Karapetyan stitched up his mouth "in protest against human rights violations" by Armenian authorities and announced a hunger strike.

Other activists and relatives of Ovannes Karapetyan tried to persuade him to stop the protest and remove the stitches, as Gagik Egiazaryan, a member of the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The stitches were removed; however, Karapetyan said that he was not going to stop his hunger strike, noting that the final decision will be taken after talking with Zhirayr Sefilyan (the leader of the movement "100 years without regime" – note of the "Caucasian Knot")," said Egiazaryan.
