Convicts for attack on Nalchik urge court to mitigate their punishment

The Russia's Supreme Court (SC) has finished announcing the appeal complaints lodged by the figurants of the case on the attack on Nalchik. The convicts ask to commute their sentences up to complete acquittal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since December 15 the SC is considering the appeal complaints in the case of the attack on Nalchik, which were lodged by 48 out of 52 convicts. On December 17, the SC began announcing the complaints.

On December 18, the SC of Russia continued reading out the complaints. In particular, Zaur Sokmyshev asks to soften his punishment and reduce the amount of payments for property damage, asserting that his guilt was not proved.

The advocate Rita Gelyaeva has also drawn the court's attention to the medical records evidencing that Sokmyshev has a disease that hinders his custody.

In his turn, the representative of the prosecution has stated that the arguments set out in the appeal complaints are unjustified; and the verdict was handed down on the case in strict accordance with the requirements of the law.
