Truckers of Stavropol Territory take part in action against "Platon" in Khimki

In the course of the action "Funeral of the system 'Platon'" held in Khimki against the new toll collection system, truck drivers on protest have stated that the system will "bury" private carriers. At the meetings with members of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), truck drivers from Dagestan and the Stavropol Territory have also voiced the demand to abolish the system "Platon".

On December 9, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev reported that only a small part of truck drivers were protesting against the collection of tolls from trucks on the roads of federal significance. According to Dmitry Medvedev, the system "Platon" registered 700,000 carriers, offering 85-90 per cent of all transportation services in the country.

Andrei Bazhutin, the coordinator of Khimki truck drivers, has said that about 15 truck drivers held an improvised memorial service and laid wreaths near the entrance to the office of the system "Platon".

The truck drivers from Volgograd failed to get to Khimki because of lack of seats in passenger cars, which had gone to other protesters. This was reported by Alexander, a truck driver from Volgograd. According to him, the protest action in the Kashira Highway will last until the truck drivers' demands are fulfilled.

According to Said Idrisov, the leader of the delegation of Dagestani truck drivers on strike in the 92nd kilometer of the Kashira Highway, during the period of operation of the system "Platon", the cost of food in Dagestan increased by 30 percent.

Earlier, the Volgograd truck drivers have refused to take part in a rally organized by the CPRF in the suburbs of Moscow. They are not going to appeal to political parties for help. This was said by Vladimir Glazko, a truck driver from Volgograd. He has explained that the truckers' protest is "economic" and not "political".

Alexei Ulyanov, the coordinator of the Volgograd truck drivers, has explained the truckers' refusal to appeal to political parties by the desire not to politicize the protest.
