In Yerevan, law enforcers release activist Artak Gevorgyan

Artak Gevorgyan, an activist of the art group "Counterstrike", who was detained in Yerevan for the art action criticizing the Armenian authorities, was released under recognizance not to leave. Artak Gevorgyan claims that law enforcers treated him rudely and kept him for a long time at the Department of the National Security Service.

On December 11, Artak Gevorgyan was detained after he entered a self-made cardboard tank and walked in front of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia.

Artak Gevorgyan started his protest action with the use of the self-made cardboard tank from Freedom Square. Then, he drove his cardboard tank to the buildings of the Central Election Commission (CEC), of the residence of the Armenian President, of the Constitutional Court, and of the National Security Service, the "Caucasian Knot" was told by the activist himself after his release.

Artak Gevorgyan was detained at the workshop of the art group. According to him, he was detained "in a most rude way, with the use of force." He was brought to one of the offices of the Armenian NSS, where he was kept for about six hours. Meanwhile, at first, Artak Gevorgyan was not informed where he was brought.

"I did not know where I was, why I was brought there, and what my rights were. I wrote an explanation letter. Then they ordered me to sign a piece of paper and seized my passport," the activist has said.
