Advocates of Avetisyans' relatives oppose holding Permyakov's trial at Gyumri military base

The decision to conduct in the territory of the Russian military base a court session in the case of the shooting of the Avetisyan family members in Gyumri jeopardizes the transparency of the trial. This was stated by advocates of relatives of the Avetisyan family. The advocates intend to abolish the format of field sessions.

On January 12, in Gyumri, six members of the Avetisyan family were assassinated. The only survivor of the attack – the six-month-old Sergey Avetisyan – was hospitalized in critical condition and underwent his treatment in Yerevan. On January 19, the baby's condition has deteriorated and he died. A Russian regular soldier Valery Permyakov is arrested as a suspect of committing the massacre.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 24, the criminal case against Valery Permyakov, a soldier of the 102nd Russian military base, accused of killing seven members of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri, was sent to the court. The first court session is scheduled for December 18, and it has been decided to hold it in a format of a field session.

The field session means that Valery Permyakov will be kept at the 102nd Russian military base, where the court session will be held. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Yervand Varosyan, an advocate of successors of the Avetisyan family.

The advocate believes that the field format of the court session promises the problems similar to those appeared in the course of the trial in the case against Valery Permyakov held at the Russian military court at the military unit. During that session, the judge removed journalists from the courtroom despite the claims of the transparency of the trial.

"During that court session, the trial absolutely failed to meet the standards. It was impossible to ensure a public session, and now it will be very difficult. I cannot imagine how journalists will cover the court session," said Yervand Varosyan. He has added that the advocates of the Avetisyan family's successors will undoubtedly raise this issue at the first court session.
