In Yerevan, police release nine activists

Nine persons, who were detained during a protest action in the centre of Yerevan, were released from the police station, after the protocols had been compiled. This was reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by activists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the centre of Yerevan, the opposition held a protest rally with the demand to recognize as null and void the results of the today's Armenian referendum on constitutional reforms. At the beginning of the rally, according to organizers, about 700 people gathered at Freedom Square in Yerevan. The rally ended with a march. After the activists had broken through the police cordon, the protesters reported on detentions. According to the activists, about 20 people were detained; however, they failed to mention the exact number of detainees. According to the police, nine persons were detained.

At the police station, the protocols were compiled against the detainees for disobeying the demands of public officers, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by activist Aram Manukyan.

He has also added that he does not admit his guilt. He was on the sidewalk when the activists broke through the police cordon, and the police didn’t demand anything from him.

Activist Maxim Sarkisyan, a member of the coordinative initiative group "No to robbery!", claimed the use of force against him. According to him, policemen beat him and tore his jacket.
