Volgograd truckers refuse to participate in rally near Moscow

Today, a rally has been held at the 92^nd kilometre of Kashira Highway. It was organized by the interregional trade union of professional drivers. This was reported by Alexei Ulyanov, a coordinator of the protest action of Volgograd truck drivers.

Russian truckers are protesting en masse against the introduction since November 15 of the "Platon" system, which provides for the collection of tolls from trucks moving along federal highways.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 29, a convoy of trucks left Volgograd for Moscow. The protesters reported on the police attempts to prevent the protest action.

"The rally was attended by about 70 people, including truck drivers from Dagestan and Tula. They talked to Alexander Kotov, Chairman of the trade union, and discussed the need to abolish the 'Platon' system. Truck drivers from the Volgograd Region do not take part in the action, since earlier, together with Alexander Kotov, we have noticed members of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and the 'Volya' Party," Alexei Ulyanov has said.

"Our protest action has no political pretext. So, we coordinate our activities by ourselves and look for the ways to address the issue. However, today, no members of political parties attended the rally," Alexei Ulyanov has added.
