Volgograd truckers complain to Ella Pamfilova about police actions

The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation has received a complaint from truck drivers, in which they accuse policemen of obstructing their movement to Moscow and ask to assist in the abolition of the "Platon" system.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 29, a convoy of heavy vehicles left Volgograd for Moscow. On December 2, Volgograd truck drivers complained that the police blocked their trucks at the parking lot, and on December 3, they reported an attempt of a provocation.

On December 3, in Moscow, Alexei Ulyanov, the coordinator of the protest action of Volgograd truck drivers met Ella Pamfilova, Russian Commissioner for Human Rights. He has handed over to her the appeal of the protesters, in which they criticized the police actions and stressed that the introduction of tolls on federal highways would aggravate the financial situation of their families.

The truck drivers' appeal also notes that they "faced police arbitrariness."

"In the territories of Volgograd and the Volgograd Region, policemen repeatedly stopped us and collected our documents... For all the period of time, our trucks have been inspected up to four times," the truck drivers report.

The appeal notes that at the meeting held on December 2 at the "Rosavtodor" (Federal Road Agency), "no constructive decisions were taken, and our demands were not only left unfulfilled, but they were actually ignored."
