Two members of "Muslim Unity" detained in Ganja

Two supporters of the movement "Muslim Unity" have been detained today in Ganja on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs and weapons, and rendering resistance to the police, the MIA of Azerbaijan reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, the residents of Nardaran gathered for a spontaneous rally at the centre of the village, after four members of the movement "Muslim Unity" and two policemen were killed the clashes in the village. The residents of Nardaran started to built barricades, and the police arranged reinforced checkpoints at all entrances to the village. Close to midnight, the situation in Nardaran stabilized.

"The detainee Sabir Aliev was disturbing the public order by making public appeals in favour of 'Muslim Unity', while standing at the intersection of Tabriz and A. Mamedov Streets. During a search, a Makarov pistol, eight rounds, one magazine and 3.215 grams of heroin were found on him", the Azerbaijani MIA reports.

According to the police, another resident of Ganja, Ruzi Ismayilov, was detained near the local mosque "Shakh Abbas", "where he came to call believers to express their solidarity with protesters in Nardaran", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"During detention, Ruzi Ismayilov hit Police Major Oktay Orujov on the head and then tried to detonate a grenade. Ruzi Ismayilov was detained; two grenades – F-1 and RGD-5, as well as 14 grams of heroin were found on him," says the MIA's statement.
