Nardaran residents report on stabilization of situation in their village

The protests in the Azerbaijani village of Nardaran, where members of a group of believers and policemen had been killed in clashes, were stopped. However, the police continue to control the entrances to the village, and the local residents have not yet removed the barricades built.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, the residents of Nardaran gathered for a spontaneous rally at the centre of the village, after four members of the movement "Muslim Unity" and two policemen were killed the clashes in the village. The residents of Nardaran have built barricades, and the police arranged reinforced checkpoints at all entrances to the village.

The protest action in Imam Khusein Square was stopped at about midnight, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Natiq Kerimov, one of the local elders.

"We have made a decision that today, the elders will establish contacts with chiefs of the law enforcement authorities to clarify the situation with detainees and wounded persons. Besides, they are to discuss how the bodies of the deceased people will be given out," Natiq Kerimov has noted.

According to the information received from relatives of the detainees, the number of people involved in clashes and taken into custody has reached at least 18-20 persons, Natiq Kerimov reports.

"The number of wounded people and their condition is unknown. We know that some people, presumably, three or four persons, were placed to a resuscitation ward; however, we are not aware of their current condition," the elder has emphasized.

According to Natiq Karimov, the villagers express their indignation about biased coverage of the events in Nardaran by pro-government media, which report on the preparation of a coup d'etat and treat the participants of the action as extremists.
