At gathering in Grozny, Ramzan Kadyrov speaks of parents' responsibility for actions of their sons

At the national gathering held in Grozny, Ramzan Kadyrov has made a statement concerning the responsibility of parents for their children's actions in view of the need to combat extremism and terrorism. Local residents fear that the Ramzan Kadyrov's statements can result in severe consequences.

The national gathering was held in Grozny at the building of the State Theatre and Concert Hall on November 23. The main topic of discussion was the latest developments related to the arson of the ziyart (mausoleum) in Kurchaloi and the combat actions in Syria, in particular, the involvement in those combat actions of residents of Chechnya, who joined the IS (the "Islamic State", banned in Russia and recognized as a terrorist organization, note of the "Caucasian Knot").

"Parents should take full responsibility for the actions of their sons... The gathering has also claimed to hold them responsible under the age-old laws of the Chechen people," Ramzan Kadyrov himself wrote on his page on Instagram, when commenting on the recent gathering.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by a staff member of a local NGO that Russia has no laws stipulating the principle of collective responsibility.

"I believe that soon, we will see the consequences of the yesterday's gathering," the woman has said.

Parents cannot be held responsible for their children, like children cannot bear responsibility for their parents. This opinion was expressed by Sultan, a former staff member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

"We are apparently facing the next wave of 'witch-hunt'. Under the pretext of combating Islamists and terrorists, our authorities persecute all dissidents. How can the leader of the region talk that parents and close relatives will bear responsibility for the actions of their sons? Even the totalitarian authorities of Soviet Union never thought of that. It is impermissible not only in terms of law: it also does not conform to sharia," Sultan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
