In Dagestan, truckers block roads, head of trade union reports
Truck drivers from Dagestan have blocked roads in the republic and "are ready to move to Moscow." This was reported by Alexander Kotov, Chairman of the truckers' trade union.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from November 14, in Dagestan, truckers regularly held protest actions in the Karabudakhkent and Kayakent Districts. In the Karabudakhkent District, truckers parked their trucks on the roadside near the village of Achi-su, and starting from November 15, they refuse to transport goods. On November 18, truckers parked their trucks on the roadside of the highway "Caucasus" in the area of Manas and Kayakent, which resulted in the formation of large traffic jams.
As of November 18, in Dagestan, more than 17,000 people were on strike, and trucks stretched out on the roadside for 57 km. This was reported by Sergey Voloschuk, the deputy chairman of the interregional truckers' trade union.
Russian truckers are protesting against the system "Platon", introduced on November 15 to collect tolls from trucks on the roads of federal significance. The authorities explain the need for collection of tolls by stating that trucks damage roads.
Earlier, Dagestani truckers have stated that they do not intend to resume transportation of goods until November 22.
