Varvara Karaulova, accused of attempting to join IS, pleads guilty, judge reports
Alexandra Ivanova (Varvara Karaulova), a student of the Moscow State University (MSU), accused of attempting to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), has pleaded guilty. This was reported by the judge in the course of the trial.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 4, Varvara Karaulova and Muslim Akhmaev, a resident of Chechnya, were detained at the Turkish-Syrian border in a group of 14 Russian citizens who, according to investigators, intended to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia. After the case had caused high resonance, Varvara Karaulova changed her name and became Alexandra Ivanova. On October 28, in Moscow, the court arrested her, and the defence appealed against the court's decision.
"She fully admits her guilt," stated the judge when reading out the minutes of the interrogation as quoted by the "RAPSI" (Russian Agency of Legal and Judicial Information).
