"Russian March" in Volgograd was 250 persons strong
The participants of the "Russian March" in Volgograd demanded from the authorities of the region to protect the interests of the Russian population and to stop violating their rights on racial grounds. There were no provocations or detentions during the action.
The march was organized by the public organization "Union of Russian People". According to organizers, there were about 250 marchers in the column. The march and subsequent rally had been agreed upon with the city administration.
At the end of the march, a rally took place in the square near the fountain "Peoples' Friendship". Stanislav Terentiev, a co-chairman of the Union read out the "Appeal to the Governor of the Volgograd Region A. I. Bocharov", where the Governor was accused of "political myopia." According to Terentiev, the Governor "shows indifference to the "Russian issue" in the region.
Passers-by reacted differently to the "Russian March". Thus, Natalia Cherevko, a native of Saint Petersburg, called this march "horrible". She said that she had encountered Russian nationalism for the first time in the city-hero Volgograd; and "such marches should be prohibited."
On the contrary, Vera Yurina, a resident of the Voroshilov District, said that she supported the slogans of the protesters. However, she stressed that she did not feel any discrimination of Russians in Volgograd, where "all nations live in peace."
