Azerbaijani opposition states violations at parliamentary elections
According to the monitoring conducted by the "Institute for Democratic Initiatives" (IDI), last Sunday, the voter turnout at the parliamentary elections was about 25%. Oppositional candidates state massive falsifications at the elections. According to the authorities, the elections passed in the democratic atmosphere.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the total voter turnout was 55%.
The ruling "Yeni Azerbaijan" Party (YAP) has confidently won the parliamentary elections, said Ali Akhmedov, the executive secretary of the party. The exit-polls conducted by pro-government bodies confirm this information.
Azer Gasymly, a candidate for an MP from the "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) Movement at the 23rd Nasimi-Sabail constituency, has stated the "total falsification" of the elections. He said that throughout the voting the ReAl members of election commissions were under pressure because of their statement about violations of the law.
According to his story, after vote tabulation, members of election commissions refuses to give copies of protocols to his representatives.
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) has stated that nearly 500 candidates had to self-withdraw because of massive violations of the law. According to the NCDF, on the voting day, in reality, the voter turnout did not exceed 10%.
