Chechen authorities announce detention of group of potential ISIL militants

A mass detention of natives of Chechnya, who intended to leave for Syria, was undertaken by power agents on October 29, a Chechen law enforcement source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, in total, 17 persons were detained.

"We had information that in Moscow a group of young people from Chechnya aged up to 30 was living for a few months. Our suspicion was caused by the fact that the young people did not work and did not pay for the apartment. It was also found out that earlier from that very apartment two groups of young people had been sent to Syria in order to participate in the warfare for the terrorist grouping of the 'Islamic State' (IS, earlier – ISIL)," said the source.

On October 30, all the detainees were brought to Grozny by a direct flight from Moscow.

On October 30, the detention of potential militants was also reported on the official website in the social network "VKontakte" run by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. He accused special services of USA and Europe of training terrorists.

The residents of Chechnya, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", treated the situation with the detention of potential militants as "strange."

The whole story could be staged, the head of a local NGO told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity.
