Said Amirov's advocates: GPO fails to respond to Vladimir Putin's instructions

The Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has not yet responded to the Russian President's instructions to check the information on torture of the defendants in the criminal case against Said Amirov. This was reported by Amirov’s advocates.

On August 27, 2015, the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Said Amirov to life-long imprisonment. Seven other defendants in the case: Yusup Djaparov, Murad Aliev, two Akhmedov brothers, Magomed Kadiev and Zubair Mutaev were awarded sentences ranging from 10 to 22 years in prison. The figurants in the case were charged, in particular, with the murder of Arsen Gadjibekov, the head of the investigating division for the Sovietskiy District of Makhachkala of the ICRF, who was shot dead on December 24, 2011, in the city of Kaspiysk, and the terror act committed at the shopping-entertaining centre "Moskva" on April 2, 2011, in Kaspiysk.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 1, during the meeting of the Russian President with members of the Presidential Human Rights Council, human rights defender Andrei Babushkin drew the attention of Vladimir Putin to the claims of torture used against the persons involved in the Said Amirov's case. Vladimir Putin has promised to instruct the General Prosecutor's Office to check the information.

Till present, the advocates "see no changes in Said Amirov's case after the statement made by the Russian President." This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" by Vladimir Postanyuk, the head of the team of advocates, engaged in the defence of Said Amirov and others persons involved in the criminal case.

"Perhaps, we will learn about the developments of the events when the appeal hearings take place. It is unlikely that the President's instruction has become a dead letter for the General Prosecutor's Office. Moreover, there is a lot of information to be checked, since the complaints about the use of torture have mentioned the names, ranks, and posts of the persons, who violated the rights of our clients," said Vladimir Postanyuk.
