Student Karaulova arrested until December 23
Varvara Karaulova, a student of the Moscow State University, who was detained in Turkey while trying to penetrate into Syria, has changed her name and surname.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Varvara Karaulova and Muslim Akhmaev, a resident of Chechnya, were detained on June 4 on the Turkish-Syrian border within a group of 14 Russian citizens, who had allegedly intended to join the "Islamic State", recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, USA, Turkey and a number of other countries.
"The court has in relation of Ivanova, Alexandra Pavlovna, suspected of committing a crime under Part 1, Article 30, and Part 2, Article 205.5, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for participation in activities of a terrorist organization), the measure of freedom restraint in the form of detention until December 23," said Yulia Skotnikova, the press-secretary of the Lefortovo Court of Moscow. She explained that the ruling was handed down in relation to Karaulova.
"She has changed her name and surname," the "Interfax" quotes the press-secretary as saying.
"We treat the court ruling as unreasonable. She made no active steps towards the crime incriminated to her," the TASS quotes Alexander Karabanov, the student's advocate.
