Polish court refuses to extradite native of Chechnya to Russia

A native of Chechnya, who was granted the refugee status in Poland, is accused Russia of involvement in combat operations in Chechnya in 1995-2003. He managed to convince the court that he has no chance of a fair trial at home.

Today, the Regional Court in Warsaw made a decision on the Russian request. The man, who has been living in Poland for 11 years and has the refugee status, is accused in Russia of an attempt to "overthrow the constitutional order" and "establishment of a Sharia state" during the conflict in Chechnya in 1995-2003.

The judgement of the court refers to reports of international organizations saying that in Russia at trials of combatants in Chechnya "human rights are seriously violated."

The judgment can be appealed against in the second instance, RIA "Novosti" reports referring to the Polish Press Agency.
