Georgian President claims preconditions for civil confrontation in country

The situation with the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party and the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel has created the preconditions for violation of constitutional order and civil confrontation. This was stated by Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili. Georgian political analysts believe such a statement is well reasoned. On the contrary, the Cabinet of Ministers believes that there are no signs of destabilization and treats the Georgian President's statement as "irresponsible".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 19 and 20, a series of attacks on the offices of "United National Movement" (UNM) Party occurred in Tbilisi, Batumi, Gori, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, and Poti. Members of the UNM have stated that the attacks were organized by the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream".

Earlier, on October 2, together with the "Free Zone", the UNM held an action in support of the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel. In this connection, a fight occurred between Dato Lortkipanidze, a deputy of the "Georgian Dream", and oppositionist Akaki Minashvili.

On October 22, Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili reported that in order to maintain stability and constitutional order in the country, he begins to hold meetings with members of political parties, diplomats, and NGOs.

The President's statement has become a subject of criticism from government officials, who believe that there are no preconditions for the destabilization in the country.
