On October 5-11, at least 8 persons were killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of October 5-11, 2015, at least 12 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, eight persons were killed, and four others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes seven suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) four in Dagestan and three in Chechnya, and one law enforcer in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On October 7, near a house in Akushinsky Avenue in the centre of Makhachkala, policemen tried to stop an armed man. However, when they tried to check his ID, he opened fire. The attacker was killed by return fire. According to investigators, he kept a grenade with a fuse in a pocket of his trousers. The killed man was identified as Shamil Magomedov, a member of an illegal armed formation (IAF). According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), he was involved in a number of grave crimes, including attempts on law enforcers and kidnappings.

On October 8, unidentified men opened fire on a police car near the village of Kvanada in the Tsumada District of Dagestan. Police Captain Efimov from Buryatia got a severe gunshot wound.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On October 6, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced within the administrative boundaries of the Karabudakhkent District. According to a source in the secret services, the special operation was organized in the Karabudakhkent District in connection with the murder of the head of Karamakhi village of the Buynaksk District. According to local residents, the villages of the district did not feel any effect of the introduction of the CTO regime. On October 10, the CTO regime was cancelled.

On October 8, during the special operation in the Staropromyslovsky District in Grozny, two houses in Mayakovsky Street were blocked. At 3:00 p.m., the CTO regime was introduced within the administrative boundaries of the district. In response to the demand to surrender, militants opened fire. As a result of the firefight, three suspected militants were killed. Three policemen were wounded during the special operation. The deceased men are identified as 26-year-old Zelimkhan Bashanaev, 33-year-old Zelimkhan Bashanaev, and Shamil Chergizov. Zelimkhan Bashanaev and Zelimkhan Bashanaev were put on the federal wanted list on suspicion of involvement in the armed underground.

On October 10, the CTO regime was introduced in the village of Gimry of the Untsukul District. Law enforcers blocked armed men in one of the houses. When offered to surrender, they refused. During the special operation, three members of the "Gimry" grouping and a FSB special forces fighter were killed. The killed men were identified as 24-year-old Ruslan Ibragimov, Akhmed Abdurakhmanov and Shamil Shamilov, both 27 years old. All three killed men were members of the "Gimri" grouping and were involved in attempts on law enforcers and acts of extortion of money from entrepreneurs.

Detentions

On October 6, a 53-year-old local resident, suspected of aiding and abetting members of the armed underground, was detained in the mountainous Vedeno District in southern Chechnya. In the course of the interrogation, the detainee has confessed that in spring 2009, he used to supply with food members of and IAF.

On October 8, in the Cossack village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, law enforcers detained a 20-year-old girl, who was in the international wanted list on suspicion of terrorism. The detainee is a native of Ingushetia and recently returned from Austria.

Kidnappings

On October 10, Taita Yunusova, who appeared in the documentary film "Grozny Blues", was kidnapped from the house of her relatives near Grozny. Lucia Sgueglia, the screenwriter of the documentary film "Grozny Blues", suggests that the kidnapping of Taita Yunusova may be related to her role in the film. At about 11:00 p.m., Taita Yunusova was allowed to go home.
