Relatives of Tarkhan Batirashvili do not confirm reports on his death

Relatives of Tarkhan Batirashvili (Abu Omar al-Shishani), a field commander of the "Islamic State", recognized as a terrorist organization, have refused to confirm the information about his killing.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 11, the death of Tarkhan Batirashvili was reported by the Iranian news agency "IRNA". According to the news agency, Tarkhan Batirashvili was killed in the course of the air attack of the Iraqi air force.

The former Georgian soldier, involved in the civil war in Syria, the commander of the northern sector of the "Islamic State" (IS), a battle grouping of radical Islamists, fighting in Iraq and Syria (until 2014, the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant", ISIL), became well-known in Syria under the name of Umar ash-Shishani (Omar al-Shishani, Omar of Chechnya, Chechen Omar).

Relatives of Tarkhan Batirashvili, who live in the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia, have said they have not received from Syria the information about his death, reports Gela Mtivlishvili, the editor of the Kakheti Information Centre.

Aleko Kvakhadze, engaged in the studies of the Caucasus, believes that the "Islamic State" (IS) (recognized as a terrorist organization by Russia, the USA, Turkey, and other countries, note of the "Caucasian Knot") will not withhold the information about the death of Tarkhan Batirashvili.

Earlier, the Internet has repeatedly posted reports about the killing of Tarkhan Batirashvili. On November 13, 2014, Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in his blog on Instagram, that "Tarkhan Batirashvili, the enemy of Islam, who called himself Omar ash-Shishani, was killed." Later, the page with the message was deleted.
