Gimry villagers report on mass police registration of relatives of suspected militants

In the village of Gimry of the Untsukul District of Dagestan, the police register relatives of suspected militants and collect full dossiers for their identification.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 10, a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced in Gimry. According to law enforcers, a group of armed men was blocked in a house in the village of Gimry. After the special operation, the law enforcers reported on the killing of three suspected militants and one FSB agent.

According to a woman from the village, in the Untsukul District, relatives of suspected militants are massively registered at the police. She has added that the police register not only close relatives, but also cousins of the suspected militants.

"They summon people to the police station to take blood samples for DNA testing, fingerprint them and record their manners of walking and their voices," the local woman has said. According to her, about 40 persons were registered in accordance to the above procedure.

According to another woman from the village, the people, included in the police lists, are forced to go to the police station. Their data are being reported to the checkpoint, installed upon the introduction of the CTO regime in the village in August and not yet removed.

Another woman, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", who introduced herself as Madina, stated that it is almost impossible to get removed from the police lists, even if a person got into the list by mistake.

A staff member of the Untsukul ROVD (District Interior Division) has confirmed the fact that relatives of militants were registered by the police. However, according to him, only close relatives of militants are included in the police list.
