Rights defenders doubt of charges against Karpyuk and Klykh
Investigating authorities are trying to give Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh, members of the UNA-UNSO, accused in Chechnya, most negative image for the emotional impact on the judge and the jury, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at present the Supreme Court of Chechnya is considering with participation of jurymen the case of two members of the UNA-UNSO Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh, who are accused of heading and participating in a gang, and murders and attempted murders of two or more people.
According to investigators, in the early 1990s, in the territory of Ukraine, a radical right-wing militant political organization "UNA-UNSO" was founded. Ukrainian citizens Nikolai Karpyuk, Stanislav Klykh, Alexander Malofeev, Alexander Muzychko, and other persons became members of the "UNA-UNSO". The Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation has recognized the "UNA-UNSO" an extremist organization and its activities are prohibited on the territory of Russia.
"Even if we don’t ask whether or not Karpyuk and Klykh had committed the crimes imputed to them and to what extent everything contained in the indictment corresponds to the reality of the fights in Grozny in 1994-1995, the charges brought against the citizens of Ukraine cause a lot of doubts," says the today's statement of rights defenders on analysis of the indictment.
