Armenian advocates discover "threat to system of governance" in amendments to Constitution
After studying the proposed amendments to the Constitution of Armenia, a group of 52 advocates came to the conclusion that the constitutional reform represents "a threat to the system of governance." This was reported by advocate Yervand Varosyan at the press conference held in Yerevan on October 7.
In particular, according to Yervand Varosyan, such a threat is carried by a parliamentary model of governance, stipulated by a draft of the new Constitution. Yervand Varosyan believes that centralization of power in the hands of one party will lead to a collapse.
"Armenia has no system of parties, and the vast majority of the parties depend on one person. And it would be wrong to entrust them to govern the country under such circumstances," the advocate has noted.
He believes that the special commission on the constitutional reform went beyond its powers.
According to advocate Lusine Saakyan, the conclusion, prepared by a group of advocates, will soon be transferred to all the opposition political parties and movements, which oppose the adoption of the new Constitution.
