Armenian Prosecutor's Office resumes criminal proceedings against protesters from Bagramyan Avenue
In Armenia, the Prosecutor's Office of the Arabkir Administrative District has resumed the criminal proceedings against the demonstrators, who on June 22 blocked Bagramyan Avenue as part of the protest action.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by officials from the Prosecutor's Office of the Arabkir Administrative District that the Prosecutor had cancelled the decision of the Investigating Committee of Armenia in charge for the criminal case.
When commenting on the situation to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, officials from the Investigating Committee of Armenia have stated that the case against several demonstrators, who blocked Bagramyan Avenue on June 22, was closed "for absence of components of crime in the activists' actions."
The criminal proceedings were instituted against the demonstrators under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (disorderly conduct).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Armenia mass protests against the authorities' decision to increase the electricity tariff have been held since June 19. The largest action took place in Bagramyan Avenue in Yerevan, where at night on June 23, the police dispersed demonstrators with the use of water cannons.
