UN General Assembly proclaims December 9 Day of Remembrance of Victims of Genocide
The UN resolution to proclaim the day of December 9 the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide was adopted by the initiative of Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year marks the 100th anniversary since the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. On April 23, Armenia canonized 1.5 million victims of the tragedy.
The resolution was adopted at the 103rd plenary meeting of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly held on September 11. 80 member countries of the UN General Assembly, including the United States, approved the resolution, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The resolution adopted by the UN is based on the document "On the Prevention of Genocide" submitted by Armenia and adopted at the 28th session of the Human Rights Council held on March 27 inGeneva. The resolution is aimed at consolidating and enhancing the activities of the international community in the fight against genocide, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports with reference to the press release disseminated by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
