In Armenia, opponents of constitutional reforms sign agreement on united front "No!"

On September 12, at the conference held in Yerevan, the agreement on formation of the united front "No!" was signed by the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Party, the "Heritage" Party, the "National Self-Determination" Party, the "Constituent Parliament", and the initiative group "No to robbery!" The idea to unite the opponents of the constitutional reforms was initiated by the initiative group "You won't deceive us!" In total, about 30 political parties and activists of the civil society announced their consent to speak with one voice, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 13, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan approved the draft of country's constitutional reforms. In his opinion, the concept of reforms is a progressive document and opens up broad opportunities for the advance of democracy in the country.

Opponents of the constitutional reforms believe that under the pretext of amending the Constitution, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan wants to overcome the ban to run for presidency for the third term and to ensure thereby a reproduction of the current system of power.

"There is an attempt to create a more authoritarian system, which will lead Armenia to the way of North Korea," said at the conference political analyst Armen Grigoryan, a member of the initiative group "You won't deceive us!"

According to Armen Grigoryan, in order to prevent the adoption of amendments to the Constitution, it is necessary to consolidate the political and civil forces.
