48 people detained during dispersal of protest action in Yerevan

As reported by the press service of the police, 48 detained protesters were brought to police stations from Bagramyan Avenue.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 11 activists of the initiative group "No to robbery!" held a rally against the increased electricity tariff in Freedom Square in Yerevan. After the rally, protesters marched to Bagramyan Avenue, where they broke through the police cordon and blocked the roadway. The police demanded the abandon the avenue, and then ousted the protesters from the roadway. Several persons were detained.

Now, protocol on administrative offenses are drawn up against the detainees under the article of "disobeying the lawful demands of a policeman," said the press service of Yerevan Police.

Let us remind you that mass protests against the authorities' decision to raise the electricity tariff are held in Armenia starting from June 19. Russian mass media have treated these events as "Electro Maydan", understanding "Maydan" as a movement aimed to overthrow the ruling power and organized from abroad. Armenian mass media did not accept this comparison, emphasizing the spontaneous nature of protests and the consistent refusal of protesters in Bagramyan Avenue from political demands.
