Investigators associate murder of Dagestani Imam with his religious activities

The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has started the investigation into the murder of 34-year-old Imam Magomed Khidirov, who was shot dead in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this morning, Imam Magomed Khidirov has been shot dead in front of the local mosque in the village of Novy Kurush.

According to investigators, two men in masks shot and killed Magomed Khidirov when he was on his way to the morning prayer. Magomed Khidirov died at the place, and the gunmen fled the scene, the press service of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF reports.

The criminal case has been instituted under Article "murder committed by a group of persons" and "arms trafficking committed by a group of persons", the website of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF reports.

"According to the priority version, the Imam was killed because of his professional religious activities," reports the "Interfax" with reference to an official from the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF.
