Police releases activists of "Arise, Armenia!"

Today, Yerevan has hosted two parallel actions against the increase of electricity tariff.

In Bagramyan Avenue, members of the group "No to robbery!" were protesting. Some 7-8 demonstrators were detained, but soon they were released by the police. At the same time, the movement "Arise, Armenia!" tried to pull policemen off Bagramyan Avenue by organizing another rally in Republic Square. The policemen who came to the square detained eight persons.

Activists from the group "No to robbery!" moved an ultimatum to the police, demanding to release all those detained in the square by the time they reach it. Otherwise, the protesters threatened to break through the police cordon at the presidential residence.

As of 10:45 p.m. local time, all the activists, who had been taken to the police station during the protest action, were released, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.

Let us remind you that actions against the increase of the electricity tariff have been held in Armenia since June 17. The republic's authorities made steps towards the protesters by promising to conduct an audit of the "Electric Grids of Armenia"; and until the end of the audit, they promised to subsidize the increased tariff. The movement "Arise, Armenia!" and the group "No to robbery!" demand a complete abolition of the increased tariff.
