In Krasnodar, hunger-strikers claim indifference of law enforcers

Three residents of the Krasnodar Territory spend the second day on a hunger strike in an attempt to draw attention of the law enforcement bodies to their problems. One of the protestors complained about unjustified prosecution of her son, and two other hunger-strikers complained of fraud, as a result of which their son lost his housing.

The hunger-strikers hold their protest action in front of the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory starting from August 26. According to the protesters, they tried to get an appointment with the Prosecutor of the Krasnodar Territory; however, they failed. Margarita Dudina, a resident of Krasnodar, has declared a hunger strike to protest against the prosecution of her 25-year-old son who is being kept in custody for 2.5 years on charges of selling drugs.

Two other protestors are Svetlana Shabanova and Fyodor Shabanov from Kurganinsk. They claim to be victims of criminals, who had illegally gained possession of the house and yard of their mentally ill son in the Cossack village of Mikhailovskaya of the Kurganinsk District. Svetlana Shabanova and Fyodor Shabanov have explained that they decided to go on a hunger strike because of their failure to get justice.

Anton Lopatin, the head of the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory, has announced to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent his intention to investigate the causes of the hunger strike.

The Krasnodar Territory has "an informal movement to protect the rights of residents of the Krasnodar Territory", and its members are trying to deal with violations committed by the law enforcers. This was reported by Tatiana Kholidi, a resident of Sochi and a member of the movement. According to the woman, five years ago, her son became unjustly involved in the case of beating of a bailiff.
