In Buynaksk, protesters hold rally instead of march because of power agents' counteraction

On August 25, members of the "Party of Veterans of Russia" held a rally in the Dagestani city of Buynaksk. The protesters demanded to change the city leaders and claimed their failure to solve the public-service problems, corruption, and terror threats. The rally was held against the background of the increased security measures, military vehicles entered the city, and the access to the place of the protest action was blocked by the police cordons, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Let us remind you that, according to the organizers of the rally, it was attended by about 500 people. Meanwhile, the authorities impede the action in every way. According to the organizers, it was planned to hold a peaceful march along Chkalov Street (one of the main streets of the city); however, but as a result of the power agents' counteraction, the protestors had to limit the action to a rally.

Almost all of the entrances to Chkalov Street in Buynaksk were blocked by power agents. According to city residents, the roads from villages to the city were also blocked. The law enforcers set up cordons and did not allow citizens to attend the rally.

According to one of the policemen, they "received instructions from chiefs not to let anyone go there."

The organizers of the rally have opposed the upcoming mayoral election by the old composition of the deputies of the City Council. According to the protestors, that will allow current Mayor Gusein Gamzatov taking the post again.

The protestors have delivered speeches at the rally and expressed their dissatisfaction with the infrastructure and appearance of the city.
