Armenian advocates report on Russia's selective approach to Permyakov's case
The Russian side has chosen a selective approach to the preparation of the materials of the criminal case concerning the massacre of the family in Gyumri which were sent to the Armenian counterpart. This was reported by advocate Lusine Saakyan at the press conference held on August 17.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 12 the Russian Garrison Military Court convicted Permyakov, a soldier of the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri, on charges of desertion, theft and illegal possession of firearms to 10 years in a high security colony. Regarding the case of the murder of the Avetisyan family, it is planned that it will be considered by the Armenian court.
On January 12, in Gyumri, six members of the Avetisyan family were assassinated. The only survivor of the attack – the six-month-old Sergey Avetisyan – was hospitalized in critical condition and on January 19, he died. A Russian regular soldier Valery Permyakov was arrested as a suspect of committing the massacre.
Lusine Saakyan believes that the materials could record the violations committed at the Russian 102nd military base revealed by investigators. According to Lusine Saakyan, to hide the above facts of violations, the Russian garrison military court has hastened to pronounce the verdict in the case of Permyakov's desertion.
According to the advocate, the Russian side protects its officers and the persons in charge for prevention of all the possible violations at the military base.
The advocate believes that after the conviction of Permyakov, the crimes committed by staff of the military bases won’t stop. According to Lusine Saakyan, there is the need for purposeful activities aimed at the elimination of all the problems existing at the military base.
The Russian side has held "a theatrical trial with the purpose to minimize the leakage of any information on violations committed at the military base, which had been revealed by the investigators," stated advocate Migran Pogosyan at the press conference.
The advocate has also noted that the court had pronounced the additional decision, which was not read out. According to the advocate, the decision has reflected the problems at the military base itself, and the court has limited the decision to disciplinary actions only.
