Activists of "Arise, Armenia!" collect over 3500 signatures for resignation of CRPS

Activists of the civil movement "Arise, Armenia!" have collected over 3500 signatures to the petition demanding resignation of the members of the Commission on Regulating Public Services (CRPS). On June 17, this Commission adopted a decision to increase the electricity tariff, which led to mass protests in Yerevan and other cities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that activists of "Arise, Armenia!" began collecting signatures in favour of resignation of the CRPS on August 5 in the cities of Gyumri and Vanadzor.

The initiative group "Arise, Armenia!" was formed during the civil unrests in Yerevan in June-July 2015, related to the increase of electricity tariff. On July 17, the group announced its plans to fight against constitutional reform and the increase of the tariff; and on August 1, the council of the movement issued its first statement demanding the resignation of the Commission for Regulating Public Services (CRPS).

The protest action in Republic Square in Yerevan demanding the resignation of the members of the CRPS will continue, Andrias Gukasyan, a political scientist and a member of the civil movement "Arise, Armenia!", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"As of August 11, over 3500 citizens signed the petition demanding the resignation of the CRPS. The collection of signatures will continue at least until August 21, when we'll hold another rally of the movement," said the activist.

According to his story, when the required number of signatures is collected, the demand will be sent to the CRPS.
