South Ossetia closes its border with Georgia for two days
On August 7 and 8, the checkpoints on the border with Georgia will be closed in connection with the republic's mourning days, said the KGB (Committee for State Security) of South Ossetia.
According to the Committee, this measure was taken "in connection with the strengthened security regime" during the events dedicated to 7 years after the armed conflict in August 2008.
"The passage of citizens will be resumed on August 9 in the normal mode," the IA "Res" quotes the press service of the KGB of South Ossetia.
After the armed conflict in August 2008, Georgia broke off its diplomatic relations with Russia. This happened after Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Georgian party treats Abkhazia and South Ossetia as territories occupied by Russian troops.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier South Ossetia used to temporarily close its border with Georgia. Thus, on May 25, the border checkpoints were closed for fear of possible provocations on the Georgia's Independence Day, which is celebrated on May 26.
