Yerevan activists announce end of three-day picket
So far, members of the movement "Arise, Armenia!" are in Republic Square, where they ended today their three-day picket against the rise of electricity tariff.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on July 27 activists began their picket in Republic Square. Some of them attempted to break through the cordon of the police and occupy the place in the centre of the square. On July 29, during another clash with policemen, David Sanasaryan, a member of the movement "Arise, Armenia!", was injured.
Today, three days after the start of the picket, the action was stopped. Protesters stay in the square and discuss their further steps, said Sanasaryan.
According to his story, on July 29, in different parts of Yerevan unidentified persons were hanging photos of protesters with insulting inscriptions on them.
Mass protests began in Yerevan after on June 17 a decision was made to increase the electricity tariff starting from August 1 by 6.93 drams per 1 kW/h. On June 27, President Serzh Sargsyan said that the company "Electric Grids of Armenia" will be audited; and until the end of which, the burden of the increased tariff will be born by the government. But on July 16, the board of the initiative group "Arise, Armenia!" was formed; the movement demands a complete cancellation of the tariff increase.
