Court in KBR denies policemen's right to compensation

Former employees of the Terek ROVD (District Interior Division) claimed compensation for their service on the border of the counterterrorist operation (CTO); however, the Supreme Court of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has rejected their claims.

Eighty-four former policemen lodged their lawsuit against the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the KBR back in 2009. On October 6, 2010, the Nalchik City Court rejected their complaint. The claimants failed to timely appeal against the decision.

According to ex-policemen, they hoped that the appeal would be lodged by the advocate, whom they contracted; however, as the claimants assert, he "first misled them, saying that he was dealing with their case," and then "he stopped communicating, having left the republic."

In May this year, the claimants applied to the Nalchik City Court asking to restore the appeal deadline.

The correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" reports, referring to the claimants, that the above ex-policemen of the Terek District had carried overtime service in high-risk conditions. However, they received no extra payment, while their payrolls were "deliberately destroyed," in order not to make due payments.

The lawyer Roman Manukyan believes that the case is hopeless, because the claimants were too late to go to court. According to his story, he sent about 30 complaints of this sort to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR); however, no answers have arrived so far.
