Materials about dispersal of protesters in Yerevan delivered to Investigating Service of Armenia
A service inquiry into the circumstances of dispersal of protesters in Yerevan, which occurred on June 23, has been suspended. The respective materials have been sent to the Special Investigating Service, the Police of Armenia has reported.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on June 23 the police used water cannons to disperse demonstrators. 237 people were detained, including journalists. Activists argue that the 25 of them sought medical help. On July 13, by the outcomes of the official inquiry, Colonel Gurgen Abrahamyan, Deputy Head of the Police for Ensuring Protection of Public Order, was demoted by one step; and a number of employees, who took part in the dispersal, received disciplinary punishments.
Let us note here that as of July 23, 12 policemen were brought to disciplinary responsibility.
Let us remind you that on July 2 the Armenian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) opened a criminal case under the articles of obstructing the work of journalists, damage of one's property and abuse of power by authorities.
