Advocates predict transfer of Permyakov to Armenian party after transfer of his case
The case of the massacre Gyumri has not been delivered to Armenia yet. According to the Armenian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), the timing for the transfer has not been defined; however, the trial will be held in Armenia. The advocates of successors of the Avetisyan family hope for the progress with the case after it arrives in Armenia and are sure that the accused Russian soldiers Valery Permyakov will be also handed over to the Armenian party.
Earlier, the Russian party stated that Permyakov cannot be delivered to the Armenian party, as he is a citizen of Russia.
In the opinion of Ervand Varosyan, one of the successors' advocates, the statement about the transfer of Permyakov's case to the Armenian party is not accidental and is linked to the June protests in Yerevan. According to his story, "in order to calm down the protests in Armenia, Russia decided to transfer the consideration of the Gyumri massacre case under the jurisdiction of Armenia."
However, advocates believe that given the loss of evidence, which could have been obtained only at the moment of detention of Permyakov, the likelihood is growing that the Armenian party will never know the true motives of the crime.
In the opinion of Migran Pogosyan, an advocate of relatives of the slain family, it can be no longer treated as a complete inquiry into the crime, because the Armenian party had not been able to appoint the necessary examinations of Permyakov in the first days after his detention.
According to Erem Sargsyan, another successors' advocate, claims that at this stage the version of domestic motive of the crime is excluded.
