Ovannes Karapetyan goes on hunger strike in Yerevan
Ovannes Karapetyan, an activist from Yerevan, who stitched up his mouth in protest against the rise in electricity tariff, today agreed to remove the stitches and was transported to hospital. After leaving the hospital, Ovannes Karapetyan announced a hunger strike.
"So far, I've no intent to stop the hunger strike," the "Interfax" quotes him as saying.
Also, David Sanasaryan, one of the coordinators of the protest actions, continues his hunger strike, announced in the evening on July 6.
Let us remind you that since June 19, after the decision was announced to increase the electricity tariff, Armenia has been hosting mass protests. The largest action took place on the round-the-clock basis in Yerevan, in Bagramyan Avenue, but on July 6 the police dispersed the protesters. On the same day, a new protest action was launched in Freedom Square; and the police did not allow its participants to march through the city centre.
The "Caucasian Knot" is posting its materials about the events in Armenia in a special subsection "Armenia protests".
