Detention of advisor Yaraliev has to do with struggle of influential groups for major posts in Derbent

So far, law enforcement bodies have not presented charges to Elkhan Kazimov, an adviser to the Mayor of Derbent, detained on June 30, said a source from the GOVD (City Interior Division). The detention of Kazimov may have to do with the struggle of different groups for key positions in the leadership of the city, said Milrad Fatullaev, the editor-in-chief of the RIA "Derbent".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Elkhan Kazimov, an adviser to the Mayor of Derbent and the deputy head of the department of housing and municipal services, was detained on June 30. During a search, power agents found a substance similar to heroin on him.

According to Fatullaev, the detention of Kazimov should be viewed as an attempt to put pressure on his brother – Nazim Kazimov, who is the head of the city department of education. According to Fatullaev, this post is claimed by a woman – a close relative of the Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces of Azerbaijan Nazhmutdin Sadykov, who has family ties with the country's First Lady Mekhriban Alieva.

The Fatullaev's version is supported by a source from the Derbent administration, who treated the accusation against Elkhan Kazimov as "absurd."
