Baksan resident states oppression of his son in colony

Musabi Berkhamov, a resident of the city of Baksan, has sent his complaints about violations of the rights of his son, Anzor Berkhamov, in a colony located in the Kurgan Region, to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) and the republic's Ombudsperson.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Anzor Berkhamov was convicted on charges of aiding militants and participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs).

In his complaint sent to Valery Khatazhukov, the Chairman of the above HRC of the KBR, Musabi Berkhamov asks to protect his son against "the lawlessness perpetrated by the personnel of the colony in the Kurgan Region." The father writes that his son Anzor Berkhamov has been repeatedly "placed into the enhanced regime barrack (known as BUR) on far-fetched grounds."

Musabi Berkhamov also writes that the conditions in the colony have affected the health of his son. "Rooms are wet; toilet not working; no medical care is provided. This is the attitude to all Muslims," says the complaint posted on the website of the HRC of the KBR.

In his complaint, Musabi Berkhamov also claims that "colony officials provoke convicted Muslims to aggressive actions," "take away their religious literature," and "would not let convicts to the mosque, built in the colony for Muslims' money.
