Yerevan protesters exclude putting forward political demands
Apart from the sit-in strike in Bagramyan Avenue in Yerevan, Armenia has stopped other protest actions against the increase of electricity tariff.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since June 19 Armenia has been holding mass protest actions against the decision of the Commission on Regulation of Public Services (CRPS) to increase the electricity tariff for citizens of the country. The largest round-the-clock action is taking place in Bagramyan Avenue in Yerevan. Today, the police stopped patrolling Bagramyan Avenue.
As of 8:00 p.m. local time, the number of protesters, according to coordinators, is about 400 people. Apart from the sit-in strike in Bagramyan Avenue, other protests across the country have stopped, said Arthur Arutyunyan, one of the coordinators of the action, adding that the demands to the authorities have not changed; and the coordination group did not discuss any new demands.
"New demands may be put forward, but they will be purely social," said Arutyunyan.
The experts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", believe that the movement against the tariff increase in Armenia is not a social, but a political phenomenon.
