Tbilisi supports Yerevan protesters
In Tbilisi, about 40 persons came to Armenian Embassy to express their solidarity with the protesters in Yerevan against increase of electricity tariffs.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 19, in the Armenian capital, activists declared a sit-in strike against the decision to raise the electricity tariffs. On June 22, they began a march to the presidential residence; however, by the morning of June 23, the protestors in Bagramyan Avenue were dispersed by the police. On June 23, a new rally was started in the centre of Yerevan. The protestors demanded from the President to cancel the decision to raise the prices for electricity.
The support action in Tbilisi, initiated by the "Network of Self-Organized Students", was held in the Georgian capital on June 24, accompanied by the slogans: "Solidarity with Armenian people!" and "Forward, social interests!", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
"We support our friendly Armenian people; now, they are defending their social interests, because the authorities have raised electricity tariffs... We understand all that quite nicely, since Georgia has similar problems. Therefore, I consider it necessary today to support Armenians," Mikhail Svanidze, one of the Tbilisi activists, told the "Caucasian Knot".
Nodar Shuabidze, another participant of the action, also finds it necessary to support the Armenian people, as now they have increased the electricity tariff so high that in Armenia it is the highest among all-post-Soviet countries.
