Sit-in strike in Gyumri held without incidents
About 30 persons spent the night in Theatre Square in Gyumri, protesting against the decision to raise the prices for electricity.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 23, the police dispersed the protest action in Gyumri against the increase in electricity tariffs. 12 persons were brought to the police and then released on recognizance not to leave. In the evening, about 50 persons have declared a sit-in strike in Theatre Square of Gyumri.
About 30 protestors spent the night in Theatre Square in Gyumri. The police did not interfere with the peaceful protest of the citizens, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by activist Karen Petrosyan.
According to him, the protests in Gyumri will continue as long as there is no compliance with the demands of the protesters in Yerevan and the decision to raise the prices for electricity is not cancelled.
Karen Petrosyan has said that in the morning of June 23, he was brought to the police station and that a criminal case was initiated against him under Article "Disorderly conduct". "My advocate challenges the lawfulness of the initiation of the criminal case," Karen Petrosyan has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
