Police release all detained protesters in Yerevan
The police have met the demands of the protesters: all of 237 activists detained on June 23 in Armenia are released.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of June 23, in Yerevan, the police used water cannons to disperse the protestors, who demanded to cancel the decision to increase the electricity tariff. 237 people were detained after the clash with the police. In the afternoon, the police released 25 activists on recognizance not to leave.
The participants of the rally in Yerevan addressed the police with the demand to release all the detainees till 8:00 p.m. local time. Otherwise, they threatened to start new actions of disobedience.
The new rally against the increase of electricity tariffs was held in Freedom Square in Yerevan. During the rally in Yerevan, Valery Osipyan, the deputy chief of the police, has announced the release of all detained activists.
Armen Mkrtchyan, a member of the initiative group "No to robbery!", has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the activists are preparing a second ultimatum, demanding from the police to take ten meters back, since the protestors and the policemen have "lined up almost heads to heads."
"However, our basic demand remains the same: the President should sign the order to cancel the decision to raise the prices for electricity," the activist has concluded.
